Punjab State Assembly on Friday passed a resolution, urging External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna and the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, to take up the issue of the release of Indian prisoner Sarabjit Singh, from a Pakistan jail. Sarabjit Singh, convicted for his alleged involvement in a series of bombings in Pakistan in 1990, is on a death row for the past 20 years and is lodged in Lahore's Kot Lakhpat Jail.
The resolution, moved in the assembly here by Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, also welcomed the release of Surjeet Singh, a resident of Phiddey village in Muktsar district. Surjeet Singh, 69, returned home on Thursday through the Indo-Pak border at Attari, after spending 31 years in Pakistan's captivity.
